...Quite possibly, because here is the sixth and final chapter of "All Will Be In Order." I can't say enough thanks to the readers who have let me know they were looking forward to updates, and to beta-readers

All Will Be in Order
When Remus Lupin moves in at number twelve, Grimmauld Place, he must come to terms with Sirius Black and a friendship too long submerged by mistrust, loss, and Azkaban. He must learn to work with Molly Weasley, who seems to be nearly as frightened of werewolves as she is of Voldemort. Clearly, adjustments will have to be made. “Be sure you pay attention when you’re working for Voldemort,” said Sirius, seizing the opportunity to vent his frustration at his favourite target of old. “Don’t forget whose side you’re really on.”

“I am hardly likely to forget,” said Snape, dripping venom. “I cannot afford mistakes when I am standing at the Dark Lord’s side.” His lip curled. “I understand it is you we have to thank for the housecleaning—such as it is—at this miserable headquarters.” The smirk grew. “Sirius Black, tied to Molly Weasley’s apron strings. Imagine.”

Sirius narrowed his eyes and wrapped his fingers around his wand.

So, I have this genfic Harry Potter WIP about Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and Molly Weasley... Heh. It's only six chapters, but the first one was posted in May 2007 (!!) and the last one isn't quite done yet. Actually, I've been sitting on the last chapter alone for, literally, a year and a half; the last-but-one went up in February 2010.

Every now and then I'd haul that last chapter out and try to work on it. Some of the scenes are in good shape. But I just couldn't make the scene that's supposed to be the climax of the entire story -- a confrontation between Remus and Sirius -- come to any sort of satisfying resolution.

Recently, though, a couple of people have prodded me about finishing this fic (thank you for being interested!). And so, I've been thinking about that last chapter. I've also been thinking about some honest and deeply appreciated reviews I got from a reader a few months ago suggesting that there was just something missing in this story.

( And I realized that the two problems were related. )

The plan now is to revise one of the already-posted chapters every two or three days, as time permits but fairly quickly. And then when all the revisions are finished, I'll give the final chapter a thorough edit and actually post it.

I revised Chapter 1 today. Most of the changes are in the final scene. As a teaser -- and an attempt at self-motivation! -- ( here's the modified ending to this chapter. )

Once again, it's been a lot longer than I expected since my last update (*sigh*). But there's only one more chapter to go after this one, and I've designated that as my personal writing goal for the month at

pulped_fictions, so I honestly think we'll have Chapter 6 in just another week (or maybe two).

Summary so far:

The Perfect Flat -- Remus and Sirius negotiate the awkwardness of resuming a friendship disrupted by suspicion and Azkaban.
The First Mission -- Molly finds the task of cleaning out a filthy house full of cursed objects much easier to face than working with a werewolf, and Percy comes home with news of a splendid promotion at the Ministry.
A Long Summer -- Molly and Remus each learn that the other is not exactly what they were expecting, and Remus and Sirius finally start to talk about why things went so wrong before Voldemort's fall.
A Few Surprises -- Remus has to take a side when Dumbledore and Sirius go head to head; he knows what he must choose, but he is only too aware of what he is risking. Meanwhile, Molly sees a few new sides to the Dark Creature she is so wary of.

“In his room, resting.” A corner of Sirius’s lip curled into a belligerent smirk—a challenge. “Full moon last night, you know.”

“Oh.” Molly went pale. “I hadn’t realised.” She was unable to repress a shudder.

Sirius gave her a frosty look. “There’s really no need to be so melodramatic about it.”

“I’m sorry,” she said stiffly. “But you must admit the idea is quite frightening.”

“If you think the idea is frightening, try asking Remus how much he enjoys the transformation itself.” Sirius bent over the newspaper again.

Molly stared at the top of his head.

Sirius snorted. "I'll be looking even better as soon as I get out of this house!" He heard Remus enter the kitchen behind him. "What's the mission you've got for us?"

Dumbledore glanced over Sirius's shoulder at Remus before answering. "I'm sorry," he said gently, "but the mission is for Remus specifically."

Sirius scowled. "Fine." He tapped the kettle with his wand and it boiled at once. "Then find another one for me."

Sirius tipped his head back, closed his eyes, and let the liquor slide down his throat, burning all the way. He sat still for a moment and waited for the tingle in his hands and feet that spoke of really good firewhisky, well aged.

Sighing in blessed relief, he looked up to find Remus watching him, eyes twinkling in his tired, slightly grimy face.

"That bad, eh?"

"Gah." Sirius poured himself another three fingers. "Mages preserve us from that woman!"

I've been bound and determined to finish chapter 3 of "All Will Be In Order" before the new Jumble gets going at Meta. But work has been really, really hectic the last couple of weeks, so I've been spending my (short) evenings lying around going "Nnnnngggghh" instead of making progress on fic projects.

So now I'm going to try a new tactic: public declaration of intent followed by shame and bitter self-recrimination (hello there, inner Remus!) if I fail. I hereby post a chapter 3 teaser and announce that the whole chapter will be posted by the first weekend in October. It will! Indeed!
