The "Not-So-Bleak Midwinter" drabblethon has just ended at [livejournal.com profile] day_by_drabble. This community is a great place to experiment, especially since "drabble" is generously defined (up to 1000 words, heh). So in addition to the AU!Snape drabble I posted a while ago, more recently I've exorcised a couple of Remus/Tonks plotbunnies -- the second is one I've had in my head for a long time and was glad to have an impetus to write up and post.
  • Awakening
    (185 words | late HBP | PG-13/thorough kissing)
It took everything Remus had to keep denying himself what he wanted most for so long. But now the dam has broken. [Something of an outtake from Landslide, actually.]

  • Support [part 1] [part 2]
    (1990 words | post-war AU, June 1998 | PG)
Remus is starting to find his place in the world after the war, when a request from Kingsley threatens to shake everything up again. [Cameos from OC werewolves, including Matthias from the HBP section of Kaleidoscope.]

Now that I'm finished with my Meta project and certain evil work projects that shall not be named, I can start taking part in some of the other writing events that are going on around LJ these days. So I jumped on the wagon at [livejournal.com profile] day_by_drabble with this:
  • Unexpected (380 words | G | post-DH AU, but not my usual one ;) )
Al Potter has a very odd encounter with a stranger in a Muggle bookshop.

And for any [livejournal.com profile] woolly_mittens wondering why the heck I'm doing Potter drabbles and not Hot Chocolates, I have to admit the wonderful Hot Chocolates posted on the very first week terrified me with their amazing creativity. Ever since then, on the few weeks when I've even had time to think about writing one, I've been too intimidated. But I'd better start stepping up for my team, so I hereby pledge to break the ice and post a Hot Chocolate this week. Even if it's really stupid.

I meant to do a round-up post of my entries at [livejournal.com profile] day_by_drabble for the April Showers Drabblethon, but, well, enough time went by that now there's been another drabblethon. ;) So here are all my drabbles (and ficlets) from the first two events.

This includes my first (and possibly only) attempt at Earthsea fic, which I'd always wanted to try...

LJ seems to be working now. ...Mostly. So I thought I'd stretch it a little and post a poll, heh.

Seriously, there's something that's been a sticking point for me in working out Kaleidoscope (my Remus/Tonks fic series), and that is how to incorporate Tonks's "tea and sympathy" scene with Molly at the Burrow. The Tonks in my head isn't the type to mope or pine just because she can't have the man she wants, so I think there's more than that going on (frustration, anger, worry). But then for this reason, I feel like the beginning of HBP is too early in the timeline for Tonks to have given up on her chances with Remus -- not to mention that there need to be that "million times" when they argue.

So I've written a piece for [livejournal.com profile] day_by_drabble where I try to flesh out what is going on with Tonks in that scene from HBP, and I would love some feedback on whether it works for (a) canon Tonks and (b) Kaleidoscope Tonks (if you've been reading the series).

The drabble: Invitation (326 words | PG, mild profanity)

The Blue Skies Drabblethon at [livejournal.com profile] day_by_drabble is up and running! There have been a lot of posts, many in fandoms I don't know (and some I'd never even heard of -- who'd have thought that there would be a fandom specifically for the 2010 Alice In Wonderland?). And new folks are still welcome to join if anyone wants to take a shot at a drabble or thirty, 'drabble' being defined as up to 1000 words for the purposes of the comm.

I've actually managed to post something for all of the first three prompts, although I don't think I'll be able to keep it up, since the next few weeks are going to have their share of distractions (example: tonight I'm meeting [livejournal.com profile] jadeddiva to see a Certain Movie).

Harry Potter -- Not that I'm being sappy about Remus/Tonks under the influence of DH-2, or anything *cough*. The AU one is actually a plotbunny I'd had in mind for a couple of years.
The Colours of War (187 words | PG | DH)
      Character(s)/Pairing(s): Remus(/Tonks), Teddy
Summary: War is grey. But, sometimes, life is not.

House and Home (997 words | PG | AU, May 1998)
      Character(s)/Pairing(s): Remus/Tonks, Kingsley, Andromeda
Summary: Remus wonders if the post-war world will finally give his little family a chance to make a home of their own.
Vorkosigan -- I obviously can't wait for the Ficathon to start, lol. Not a lot of Vorkosigan fans at [livejournal.com profile] day_by_drabble, though, it seems.
Pyrotechnics (285 words | PG | post-Memory; no major spoilers)
      Character(s)/Pairing(s): Simon/Alys
Summary: Alys and Simon have better things to do this year than attend Gregor's fireworks display.
