Happy New Year! May 2017 bring good things.

I celebrated today by finishing up a Remus/Tonks ficlet for this year's Twelfth Night Tales at

rt_morelove: just a fluffy short piece, but it was fun to get back into the swing of fic-writing, even if just a little bit. (And in case anyone out there still wants to join the event, it's open until Jan 6; info is here and sign-ups are here.)

It's time for the annual tradition: A fluffy post-war AU denial-fic, in honor of Remus's birthday. Warning: Lots of fluff ahead. (We can blame this in part on the fact that I'm writing very angsty Kaleidoscope chapters these days...HBP year was just awful for all concerned.)

This is a stand-alone story, but it's part of the Warp and Weft AU ficverse, and this is in fact backstory for a detail seen in Expecto Patronum. There's also a cameo from my OC Thaddeus Johnson, who we first met at the Ministry in the Kaleidoscope story Promises.

Family (1450 words | G | autumn 2008)

My first fill for my

hc_bingo card! I was rereading Daddy-Long-Legs over the weekend (thank you, Project Gutenberg), and I remembered that one of my prompts was "orphans," and, there you are. Though I'm not sure if I'm cheating, since it's not the orphan that's getting the comfort (just yet)? ;)

This ficlet does contain major spoilers for the novel, so if you haven't read that yet, you might want to give this fic a pass (and go read canon! -- it's a short epistolary novel about an orphan, circa 1910, who is sent to college by an anonymous benefactor to whom she writes letters that are full of humor and fun details about life in a women's college at the time -- unfortunately, the Gutenberg version doesn't have the cute little sketches that pop up in some of the letters, but you can get the idea).

Her Last Letter but Two (830 words | PG, mild profanity)

A certain convalescent gets a letter from Miss Judy Abbott. The contents aren't quite what he was expecting to have to force himself to read.

First point: I'm working on Order, I promise. :)

But, it's also been a busy and somewhat stressful couple of weeks at work, and I found myself looking around for hurt/comfort fic. Which inexorably led to a plotbunny for one of my own. Warning: fluff, angst, and emo abound here, quite possibly more than is called for, lol. But I had some fun writing it, so here goes. (Thanks to

mrstater for keeping me from chickening out about actually posting this!)

I don't even know if this will end up as part of a Kaleidoscope chapter, or if it's just sort of an outtake. But it takes place after Remus comes home in early DH. In the Kaleidoscope timeline, they were married right after the July full moon, and this is now the moon in August.

Tonks and Remus are still learning how to build trust again. But the full moon interferes, as it always does.

The Blue Skies Drabblethon at

day_by_drabble is up and running! There have been a lot of posts, many in fandoms I don't know (and some I'd never even heard of -- who'd have thought that there would be a fandom specifically for the 2010 Alice In Wonderland?). And new folks are still welcome to join if anyone wants to take a shot at a drabble or thirty, 'drabble' being defined as up to 1000 words for the purposes of the comm.

I've actually managed to post something for all of the first three prompts, although I don't think I'll be able to keep it up, since the next few weeks are going to have their share of distractions (example: tonight I'm meeting

jadeddiva to see a Certain Movie).

Harry Potter -- Not that I'm being sappy about Remus/Tonks under the influence of DH-2, or anything *cough*. The AU one is actually a plotbunny I'd had in mind for a couple of years.

gilpin25, you have been an inspiration from the time I first joined the Remus/Tonks community on LiveJournal. There’s your writing, with its powerful blend of humor and poignancy, always set off by believable human feelings that make your characters come alive. Then there are your kind words of encouragement about both writing and life that you dispense so cheerfully and generously. All of this is garnished with some of the most amusing travelogues it has been my pleasure to read!

So here are best wishes for a happy birthday and a wonderful year to come. I look forward to hearing more about your original writing projects, seeing more photos of Rosie sleeping in the sunshine, and finding out how long before Craig gets himself voted off the show on Strictly... And, more generally, continuing our various conversations, even if sporadically. :)

Work has been really, really busy -- pretty much ever since the winter holidays. I had high hopes for fic writing during my time off two weeks ago, but not a lot got done.

So this is neither (1) my new "Order" chapter, (2) a "Kaleidoscope" update, (3) my contribution to the Ides of March HP event at

fandomfusion, or even (4) the tiny Cazaril/Betriz ficlet I'm writing as a challenge response for

mrstater. No, this is a completely random plotbunny that took over my brain yesterday morning on the way to work, and has nothing to do with any of my "real" projects.

But posting something is better than posting nothing. ...Right?
