There has been a bit of a drabble flurry around lately, which is always fun. I didn't have my act together to do the drabble meme for International Women's Day this year, and I'm feeling slightly bad because I didn't remember to write Remus Lupin even the briefest of drabbles for his 52nd birthday today. ;) But I did have *cough* two more Hobbit Birthday Drabbles left to write...from *cough* last November. (There were some for Downton Abbey and some for Harry Potter, too.)

So, without further ado:

I started this story for the April Flowers event at

chalion_ibra last month (here), but I wasn't able to finish it before the event closed. So now I'm posting the whole story here at my journal. (You can jump right to the new part if you like.)

This has been another one of those springs when work hasn't left me as much time to write fic as I would like. I've got a Remus/Tonks "Kaleidoscope" chapter in progress, and I've finally figured out what House to Sort Teddy into in my post-war AU, and there's always that last chapter of "All Will Be In Order" that I'm afraid of, but which needs finishing...

At least there's drabbling, as a way to flex my writing muscles a little bit. I've come up with a few 100-worders for the "April Flowers" event at

chalion_ibra: one with Cazaril angsting, one with Ista exulting, and a drabble series that's still in progress, showing Martou dy Jironal's perspective on his metaphorical fencing match with Cazaril. (I have an Iselle-centric plotbunny, too, if I can get it together.) Lots of nice posts over there, mostly drabbles and ficlets, so be sure to take a look if you're Chalion-inclined.

There's also the "April Showers" event at

day_by_drabble, which I haven't managed to write for yet, but there are posts for all kinds of fandoms going on over there. Including not a small number of Jane Austen drabbles!

I swore off working on Thanksgiving Day (cooked instead, hee), and as a consequence, I finally had a chance to write up the Ista story I'd been kicking around in my head since I first got my (excellent!) prompts for the Gods' Delight event at

Well. Since a little bird had told me that there would likely be a deadline extension at

metamorfic_moon, I decided to take one more evening off from werewolf politics and write a small ficlet -- or maybe it's a large drabble -- for a Chalion prompt in the Ficathon at

bujold_fic.

Using my fall icon today (even though it's still nasty-hot outside), because this is, unbelievably, my last week before classes start -- the last chance to really focus on getting writing done, be it work writing or fic writing. Eeep!

I did manage to post a fluffy little Remus/Tonks AU ficlet at

metamorfic_moon, for the Summer Hallows Jumble event. (I've got a longer piece in progress as well, another installment of Remus dealing with the werewolf pack -- fingers crossed that I'll be able to pull it together in time.)

katyscarlett76, for discussion and events related to LM Bujold's Curse of Chalion series. At the moment, there's a weekly read-along and discussion of Curse of Chalion going on -- people are making lots of excellent points (and staying generally spoiler-free for later sections of the book).

It was interesting doing this post, because there turned out to be more things on the list than I was expecting. Most of them are pretty short, though; the official count is eleven stories or chapters (1000+ words), eight ficlets (500-999 words), and six drabbles (100-499 words).

It's actually hard to believe that all my Chalion attempts are from 2009. It feels like I've known that world for longer than only one year. I also have to note that two of my new fandoms (Chalion and The Thief) were introduced to me by

gilpin25. So much of this is her fault. ;)

2010 resolutions? This will be the year I finish "All Will Be In Order," and it's always a goal to be working on "Kaleidoscope"; maybe I can finish the OotP part? I'd also like to write more Chalion or Vorkosigan, especially if there's a ficathon again this summer. And more original fiction, even if only a little.

Yep, you read that right. Even though I have had about zero time to read and review fics for the last month (not to mention finishing comments for a certain discussion post that is now two weeks old), last night, instead of getting caught up, I sat down and wrote fic myself. My excuse was: I felt like my head was going to explode if I didn't write something soon. Heh. But I do have about three of y'all's new(ish) fics in open browser windows, waiting for a quiet moment, and I have NOT forgotten them.

And yep, you read that right: it's a Chalion/HP crossover. I've never written any crossover fics before, but this one was sparked by a mind-bending prompt from last summer's ficathon at

bujold_fic: 'Cazaril, Severus Snape, and endure' -- which would not leave me alone until I figured out a way to make it work. The story is post-DH, with all that implies about Snape's state of existence, and someone else who puts in an appearance is Ariana Dumbledore. This is not part of my "official" ficverse for either fandom, but I had to give crossover a try...

Once upon a time, there was a meme. Months ago, now. I don't even properly remember what it was... But there was a challenge component, and

mrstater challenged me to write some Cazaril/Betriz.

Anyway, I hope this counts -- even though dy Ferrej elbowed his way into the story and insisted on having a whole scene to himself!

Work has been really, really busy -- pretty much ever since the winter holidays. I had high hopes for fic writing during my time off two weeks ago, but not a lot got done.

So this is neither (1) my new "Order" chapter, (2) a "Kaleidoscope" update, (3) my contribution to the Ides of March HP event at

fandomfusion, or even (4) the tiny Cazaril/Betriz ficlet I'm writing as a challenge response for

mrstater. No, this is a completely random plotbunny that took over my brain yesterday morning on the way to work, and has nothing to do with any of my "real" projects.

But posting something is better than posting nothing. ...Right?
