In celebration of the fact that I'm taking tonight off (whee!) and that I finally finished my 2010 fic-in-review post (discovering, along the way, that my 2009 fic-in-review post was apparently likewise finished in April 2010), I'm irresponsibly borrowing this meme from [livejournal.com profile] avanti_90 and [livejournal.com profile] philomytha.

Maybe this will wake the muses up, because classes are over in just two more weeks and I do hope can get some longer pieces done in the near future!

Post a single sentence from each WIP you have (or as many as you want to pick). No context, no explanations. No more than one sentence!

These are the WIPs I've at least tinkered with in 2011. (One of them is a file that dates back to 2006!) They're in what you might call chronological order by setting, in a crossover universe...

  1. This was dy Cazaril, the man he'd thought might actually hold Gotorget against the Roknari, the man who would have been a true threat to Dondo.

  2. Iselle knew that her mother wasn't mad, not any more.

  3. Apparently satisfied, Molly released her grip on his robes and disappeared back down the stairs, muttering under her breath things that sounded like “skin and bones” and “working himself to death” and “no sense at all.”

  4. “If I weren’t willing to fight Death Eaters, I wouldn’t be an Auror,” Tonks reminded him, mopping up tea with her handkerchief (this was a Muggle restaurant, after all).

  5. But after Hagrid had been sent to make contact with the giants last year, Remus didn’t need Sybill Trelawney’s crystal ball to see where this was heading.

  6. Matthias threw him a sharp glance, but was too canny to react more visibly.

  7. I'm guessing, Teddy thought at the Hat, that you Sort students into the Houses where they most want to go.

  8. "You could stay the night here, you know," said Miles, trying so hard to look nonchalant that Ekaterin thought he might strain something.

.

This is spreading fast!
The last line was hilarious. And all your HP WIPs sound very interesting.

This is a fun meme!

I need to get back into HP mode ... I've been fairly thoroughly hijacked this year, between Winterfair and the current Daughter's Day fest at [livejournal.com profile] chalion_ibra. But I'd really like to finish my novel-length HP fic project before I'm the only HP fan left in the world!

Some time, I really ought to read your HP fics - it's been ages since I read anything in that fandom, but I do still love it. And I am very curious about who Miles might be talking to in that last one. Also, nice subjunctive use by Tonks ;-).

Realizing just how many pieces of my Remus/Tonks project are open WIPs at the moment was a little sobering -- I should work on making some progress! (And now you're making me wonder if Tonks really would use a subjunctive. Andromeda's influence? ;) )

That last fic is set between A Civil Campaign and "Winterfair Gifts," if that's any indication of who Miles might be talking to, hee.

I think this is a very teasing meme for the readers! :)

I hope it causes me to get myself in gear!

Ha, I *love* #8 - can't wait to read it. And I find #1, #4 and #7 very intriguing. This makes me want to read your stuff rather than write my own, though :P

No! Don't be distracted!

But. FWIW, #1 will be short -- VERY short -- and posted within a week or so. #7 will also be a mere ficlet and may make an appearance somewhat soon if I can find a prompt to work it out for. :)

I adore this -- I'm going to have to steal this meme.

Can't wait to read what comes of these, particularly #8!

Oh, do steal, it's a fun meme!

I've had #8 bouncing around in my head since last summer. Should really do something about that.

These pieces, I wants them all. And so many HP!

Though I would like this meme better if it worked with paragraphs. One sentence is just too much of a tease.

Some of the HP files are getting yellow and curly around the edges! Must do something about that...

What would be really fun would be to pick sentences from different WIPs that almost sound like they go in a sequence themselves --??

Someone on Pulped, and I can't remember who, posted something recently about coming to terms with still working on an eleven-year-old WIP novel. Which makes the unfinished HP files spring chickens. :)

I tried! You've got such a diversity of characters, though--we would need to write an epic to squeeze all those in.

Intriguing little tidbits! Glad to hear a little writing time will be coming your way soon!

They're in what you might call chronological order by setting, in a crossover universe... LOL, Type A much? ; )

This was dangerous, because now I am so tempted to spend my Saturday afternoon writing fic instead of grading papers and working on my article. Must resist!

LOL, Type A much? ; )

Who, me? ;)

This meme is always such an intriguing tease and I'd be very happy if you finish all of these, very soon! Seriously, it's good to hear you've got a little more writing time coming up.

I think I can guess where #1 will be appearing shortly, but quite a few seem to be possible Kaleidoscope stories, unless you're fooling me, lol. And I'm particularly intrigued by #2... :)

From: [identity profile] shimotsuki.livejournal.com
You're surely right about #1. ;) And yep, there are a lot of Kaleidoscope fragments floating around my hard drive, but one of these HP stories is earlier than Kaleidoscope and (obviously) one is later.

I hope I can get #2 pulled together before it's too late!

And now I'm sort of regretting doing this meme, because it woke up all the plotbunnies and they won't shut up, lol. Maybe I can get another section or two done on the article-in-progress and then retreat to write fic for the evening?

Leave out the 'maybe' and you have an excellent plan. LOL. (But resisting plotbunnies is futile.;))

Thanks! I hope I get some time soon, too. I'm actually really enjoying the chance to do a few shorter pieces for [livejournal.com profile] chalion_ibra -- at least I get to remember how to write! ;)

I've been thinking about that one off and on since last summer's Ficathon -- I should get on it!
