Writer's meme
March 14th, 2007 12:11 pmI've been out of town for a long weekend, and I came back to find the Jumble results at
metamorfic_moon (!!!) and all these "writer's memes" on my flist. This is a great meme, because now I have lots of new links for fics to read, which I'm really looking forward to -- once I finish reading and reviewing all the Jumble fics at Meta, of course.
Since I was tagged by
bratanimus, I'll give this a try myself.
WRITER'S MEME: Sometimes it's ok to pimp yourself out. Post a list of the top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.
A lot of my fics are either little drabbly things, or works in progress that haven't yet seen the light of day. But let's see.
Five favorite fics
(1) Playing Hippogriff: One of the things that really puzzles me is why Remus never tried to make contact with Harry after James and Lily were killed. Obviously, it was an important plot point in PoA that Harry didn't know Remus, but how can that fact be reconciled with Remus's conscientious, responsible, and above all kind nature? This story was my attempt to answer that question. I also had fun writing from Petunia's POV.
(2) My "Tonks finds out about Remus" sequence from the January
rt_challenge, Stripes and Revelations: I love to read fics that explore the friendship between Remus and Sirius, and I was happy with the way I was able to write that friendship in this pair of ficlets. This sequence is an excerpt from my, um, Saga of Remus and Tonks (needs a real title!), which I've been working at sporadically since last summer and hope to finish, and post for real, some year or other.
(3) A very short untitled story where the Weasley twins discover who Padfoot and Moony are, posted in two parts ([1] [2]) on the Sugar Quill's Official Drabble Thread. This is something I'm planning to include in yet another unfinished story (sigh), about Sirius, Remus, and the Weasleys opening up 12 Grimmauld Place. But anyway, I had a blast imagining the twins' reactions when they first heard those nicknames.
(4) Yet another two-parter -- my "meeting the parents" sequence from the January
rt_challenge, Absolutely, Positively, Completely Sure and Clearing the Table: I enjoyed thinking about how to write Ted and, especially, Andromeda as caring and supportive parents who are nevertheless worried when they find out their daughter is planning to marry a werewolf. Writing these also got me thinking about trying to write a chaptered fic that explores the relationship between Remus and his in-laws, especially Andromeda, over time, and I've had fun thinking about that. I've got bits of it started, but on the other hand, maybe I'd better wait for Deathly Hallows, to see who actually makes it through the war. (I also don't want to wander too close to
mrstater's Masks and Mirrors!)
(5) With Cinnamon: This one is just a fluffy little drabble, and it doesn't have much of a point except to illustrate a glimpse of a future where Remus and Tonks are happy together and comfortable in their relationship. But it made me feel all warm and cozy when I wrote it.
And now, literally everyone on my flist has already been tagged by someone else, so this is the end of the line.

Not treading on other people's fic toes is always a challenge, isn't it, when we're all working from the same source material? I was tense a lot of last fall when
