I'd been planning for a week to make a gleeful post tonight about how I'd finished off a work project (that accursed book chapter) that had been plaguing me all winter, and managed to post a fic at [livejournal.com profile] fandomfusion.

...Unfortunately, the book chapter is NOT DONE. *sigh* I can't imagine in the grand scheme of things it will matter all that much to the editor if he gets the chapter on June 2 instead of June 1, but I'm still feeling all bogged down and wishing it were over. One more day. Tomorrow I'm sending it in, no matter what.

At least the fic is done! :/ (And lest this make you question my priorities, heh, it was mostly finished a good three weeks ago, and just needed some final tweaking over the weekend when I was too tired to be working on the book chapter.) I'd been wanting to write another DH fic set at Hogwarts after having so much fun with The Sorting in 2007(!), so I was glad the [livejournal.com profile] fandomfusion prompts sent me in that direction.
  • Stumbling in the Dark (PG | 1450 words)
Dumbledore set the wheels in motion, but he left no map. All they can do is hold on tight and hope that someone knows where they are headed.

Congratulations to my fellow deadline-stalkers, especially [livejournal.com profile] duck_or_rabbit, [livejournal.com profile] gilpin25, and [livejournal.com profile] hrymfaxe -- we made it! And you'd better believe that I will be celebrating with a big ol' dose of fic-reading and graphic-novel-viewing as soon as that book chapter goes out. Tomorrow. Yes. (And you're first, [livejournal.com profile] zia_montrose. ;) )

Tomorrow. No matter what. After all, it's off to the editor, right? Doesn't it mean you may have it returned for revisions?

Thank YOU for diverting your attention away from your massive professional project and contributing at [community profile] fandomfusion. It means a lot to have both your support and your talent. Honest.

Heh -- there is no may about it; there will definitely be a revisions process. And I've already got a secret list of tons of stuff I want to double-check and/or add in for the revised version! But I still want the first draft to be reasonable; don't want the editor (or worse, the peer-reviewers) being all, "hey, this paper isn't covering half the stuff that's relevant."

If I didn't have fic to write, and places to post it, I would be a much less happy person, so thank YOU. :)

Aw, I'm sorry all did not quite go to plan with your chapter. Hang in there, just one more day! And we'll still be thrilled to see a gleeful post tomorrow. ;)

Congrats on finishing the fic!

Thanks for the good wishes and the congrats! I just got another section of the paper hammered out before I broke for lunch, so I really think I can do it today.

But now that I've discovered I really like writing DH Snape, I guess the most important question is: Should I be worried? ;)

That weight-lifting feeling from the shoulders (and everywhere else, I should imagine) is even nearer now. I look forward to hearing the frenzied yell of triumph across the ocean when it's done and gone! :)

Also looking forward to reading your fic. We deadline-stalkers just have a last minute great sense of timing, lol.

I'll try to keep that frenzied yell from getting too loud, since you (and the book editor!) will likely be asleep once I'm finally done this evening, my time. ;) But it will definitely get sent in today, even if I don't have much time to edit the writing for style (eep). I guess I can at least go through and search/replace on all the em dashes!

I'm super intrigued by the time frame/topic you've chosen for your fic and can't wait to read it.

You know you can never have too many em dashes in life. ;)

I'm a bit disappointed with it, really. It was planned at four parts, but I had to merge the last two because of time, ended up with three and...hmm. :( It should have been four. But I loved writing PoA time, hope to revisit that, and got it done, so there was a small Thank God, Yessss! from me as well, lol.

Really? Well, that's all right then. ;)

It still looks like you got a lot of story finished in a short time! Go you. :)

I had a similar problem -- there was supposed to be a whole other part to mine, about the sword of Gryffindor, but I could tell there was no way I would have time to write it, so I preemptively decided it wanted to be a fic of its own, heh.

OMG, it's not your priorities I'm worried about--it's mine! I left my paying design project until the last minute due to playing too hard over the weekend and reading wonderful fics and now I'm getting clocked over the head with it. (For safety's sake, I do not recommend spec'ing out ventilation in a hurry ; ) Client will live however, and he'll even get a good deal, since the work is getting finished in, like, half the usual time.

I look forward to hearing that you've punched that thing off to... Australia, was it?

How exciting to see all those fics get posted at the buzzer, eh?

Heh. As long as everyone can still breathe, right? ;) I'm glad you got to play hard on the weekend, though. That's what they're supposed to be for (as I keep reminding myself...).

The Netherlands, actually. So it got there well after close-of-business their time last night, but at least it had the June 2 date stamp on the e-mail. ;)

Definitely! And they all look very different and very creative. I'm happy to just write on my own, too, but I love the feeling of community from participating in events like this.
