Holiday fic list

[livejournal.com profile] mrstater has suggested that it would be fun if people posted links to the fics they've written that have a winter holiday theme. I've only got a few, and they're all Potter (largely because most of the other fandoms I write for have completely different gods!), but here goes:
  • The Things We Remember (OotP | 4725 words | PG/mild profanity and Father Christmas spoilers)
Remus and Tonks navigate the minefield that is Christmas and discover that sometimes the difficult part is not the giving, but the receiving.

  • Messages (DH | 3835 words | PG/mild profanity)
Tonks has a lot to worry about as Christmas approaches: her decreasing usefulness as an undercover agent, her father's fate as a Muggle-born wizard on the run, and the fact that her parents and her husband still don't seem to understand each other.

  • Morning Snow (AU | 100 words | G)
On Christmas Eve, Remus is trying to recover from the full moon, but something wakes him up.

  • To Dream, To Wake (AU | 385 words | PG)
One cold night, Remus has a vivid dream.

  • ETA: I forgot one!
    Playing Hippogriff (1364 words | G)
On Christmas Eve of 1981, someone unexpected turns up at a play park in Little Whinging. Does Harry remember who used to "play hippogriff" with him at Godric's Hollow? And what will Petunia do about this intrusion into her well-ordered life?
(Next year, I should have another one to add, because my current project for the Winter Hallows Advent at [livejournal.com profile] metamorfic_moon is set at HBP Christmas. ;) )

And if you're looking for more to read, here is [livejournal.com profile] mrstater's holiday fic list, which is a lot longer than mine. :)

Hope everyone is having a good weekend, and good luck to people running up against the deadline at [livejournal.com profile] chalion_ibra!
.

Ooh, this is fun. I enjoyed re-reading these stories and getting more in the holiday spirit.

Thanks! It is a fun idea. I saw you've done this too -- maybe some more folks will follow suit!

So much to re-read now!

most of the other fandoms I write for have completely different gods!

Now that would be a fun challenge--to create some kind of winter holiday for Chalion-verse! I think in LotR they still had Yule, even though Middle Earth pretty much lacks any religion at all...

That would be fun! It would be for the Father; maybe a midwinter or solstice festival? Then there could be one for the Mother too, maybe, in midsummer...

Come to think of it, I've seen other fantasy 'verses with winter solstice holidays, like the Festival of Sunreturn in the Earthsea series.

Totally stealing that idea for a future [livejournal.com profile] chalion_ibra challenge ;) lol

You know these posts have made me realise that I haven't actually written any Christmassy fics! Must remedy that with this year's [livejournal.com profile] metamorfic_moon entry!

Just posted my [livejournal.com profile] chalion_ibra fic, skating the deadline as always! Hope to get round to reading yours sometime this week!

[identity profile] shimotsuki.livejournal.com 2010-12-09 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Congratulations on making the deadline at [livejournal.com profile] chalion_ibra!

And although one of the things I like about the Meta Advent is that not all of the entries have to be Christmassy, I would definitely enjoy a holiday-themed one by you. (How's Meta going? I actually have more done on mine than I usually would by this point, even if I haven't hit 1000 words yet.)

How's Meta going?
Erm, not actually started yet! Had to get Chalion done first! And then I've been thinking about Pulped projects. Plan to do some Meta thinking over the weekend. Have a couple ideas so we'll see. But birthday is coming up so not sure how much work I'll get done in the next week.

I missed this post... Now I'm worried that writing too many Christmas cards has glazed my eyes over!

Had any chance to work on your Meta fic, or am I asking a silly question at such a time? ;)

[identity profile] shimotsuki.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi!

I'm grading final exams and so am easily distracted. ;)

Good for you for doing your Christmas cards. I just started mine LAST NIGHT. That's awful.

I started my Meta fic a week or more ago...and then it stalled, heh, but I should have some more time next week. (I get so much fic done on airplanes...) How's yours coming?

[identity profile] gilpin25.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Well you have very good reason to be running late with cards; I only got my last ones off yesterday and seem to have convinced myself that Christmas really isn't happening for a couple of weeks at least. Not quite sure what happens when the denial wears off!

How's yours coming?

It isn't. Nor are any ideas I like at the moment. I still want your prompts. ;) I'm sat here trying to think of snowman drabbles and being easily distracted, lol.

Did you ever hear anything else from my once favourite student? :(

Oh, dear! I hope inspiration strikes soon (and hard), but that's not easy when there's all the holiday things to do!

I still want your prompts. ;)

I'm keeping them! (lol) I was so disappointed with the "prank" prompt at first, but actually I think it was the best thing that could have happened to my fic as it's made me pull some different ideas in...

Did you ever hear anything else from my once favourite student? :(

Funny you should ask. :( He had until 5pm today to get me something -- anything -- or be in a certain amount of official trouble. It's now 5:25. I'm such a softie that I'm giving him until 6 before I actually input the grade into the system...

I love it when that happens. Hopefully, inspiration will strike for me: mine seem rather serious and I'd decided beforehand to be frivolous. But perhaps it might be fun if I force them to do what I want.

OMG. Come on you idiot. NOT you, obviously! You are giving him every chance over and beyond the call of all duty. And I would like him to turn up at the eleventh hour...

[identity profile] shimotsuki.livejournal.com 2010-12-17 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
And I would like him to turn up at the eleventh hour...

Oh, me too! I keep refreshing my work e-mail...

That might be fun! And sometimes the unexpected takes on the prompts are the most fun to read as well?

[identity profile] gilpin25.livejournal.com 2010-12-18 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I take it there was no last minute e-mail appearance... :(

[identity profile] shimotsuki.livejournal.com 2010-12-19 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, no. :(

I submitted his grade as an "Incomplete," which means he can still recover if he gets some work to me within the designated period. But now the clock is ticking; partly I'm hoping that having something a little more official than my finger-wagging will have a salutary effect!
