Thanks for the information and suggestions! A little Googling suggests that crumpets are thought to be hard to make, but much more delicious when homemade, so it sounds like exactly the kind of thing Molly would take pride in.

I love croissants, but I'm picturing all those buttery crumbs strewn around the 12GP kitchen on top of the dust and cobwebs and wondering if Molly might have decided against that... ;)

I will change the scones with jam and cream to crumpets with butter and jam immediately.
